Rivers PDP Ward Congress Declared Null and Void by G-60"
The G-60 opposition lawmakers of the House of Representatives have declared the congresses held in the wards in Rivers State null and void. This was made known by Hon. Ikeagwuonu Michael Ugochinyere, who happens to be the leader of this faction and is also the Chairman, House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream).
Key Points:
Ward Congresses Declared Null and Void:
G-60 announced that ward congresses held last Saturday in Rivers State were null. Hon. Ugochinyere explained that since such congresses were conducted against a recent order from the Rivers State High Court, barring such an event, whatever resolution taken at such congresses becomes null and void.
Warning Against Repeat of Past Mistakes:
Hon. Ugochinyere warned the State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, not to tread the path previously trodden by the former Commissioner of Police Joseph Mbu. It was stated that at the time, Mbu turned Rivers State into a theatre of war in the year 2013 and 2014 through his support for one politician against another.
Criticism against Nyesom Wike and Supporters:
Hon. Ugochinyere then swung at the so-called leading political leader in Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, and accused him and his cohorts of holding what he described as a "kindred meeting" masquerading in the name of ward congresses. Such a meeting, according to him, was less than an informal assembly that could not be regarded as a political congress in whatever form.
Current State of PDP in Rivers State:
According to Hon. Ugochinyere, PDP in Rivers State was not working effectively. An accusation he made to the effect that some elements in APC were trying to hijack PDP through infiltrations. This has created some level of strife and disunity among the members. In effect, this situation does have intra-party crises with a breakdown in unity within the party.
Call for Restraint:
Hon. Ugochinyere cautioned the police not to make the same mistake as former CP Joseph Mbu, whom he said abused his office to serve certain political interests and ended up with inglorious retirement.
